Isis Central Sugar Mill has confirmed that one of its employees was hospitalised after a chemical exposure incident on Tuesday.
In the statement released on Wednesday, chief operating officer Craig Wood said the employee was exposed to fumes while undertaking atmospheric testing at the mill.
Mr Wood said the company was co-operating with a Workplace Health and Safety Queensland investigation into the incident.
“Workplace Health and Safety Queensland attended the site and are investigating the incident with the full co-operation of Isis Mill,” Mr Wood said.
The employee was in a stable condition as of Wednesday morning, and was expected to be discharged at lunchtime.
On Tuesday, a Workplace Health and Safety Queensland spokesperson said they had been notified of the incident, but were unable to provide further comment.
“WHSQ is currently investigating the matter and therefore we are unable to comment further at this time,” the spokesperson said.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said paramedics went to a workplace on Kevin Livingstone Dr following reports of a chemical exposure incident received at 12.05pm.
The spokesman was unable to confirm the age or gender of the patient, who was taken to Bundaberg Hospital in a stable condition.
