The nation’s annual Great Dunny Hunt, backed by the Continence Foundation of Australia, has named its best public toilets.

The Bundaberg Airport tied for the win for the top accessible toilet in the country, alongside Lake Pertobe in Warrnambool, Victoria and Belair National Park in Belair, South Australia.

The foundation began and continues to run the dunny hunt to encourage mindfulness around bathroom accessibility.

“Taken for granted by many, awareness and access to quality public toilets is a huge consideration for those living with incontinence, who may find it difficult to leave their home for everyday activities due to the fear of not having access to appropriate facilities,” the foundation said.

In tracking down the winner, Aussie’s were asked to take photographs of their favourite public dunny before uploading them to the The National Public Toilet Map website or app.

From there a panel of expert judges including Sean Burford; 2022’s Greatest Dunny Hunter, chief executive of the Continence Foundation of Australia Rowan Cockrell and National Public Toilet Map Content Manager Tania Mayne selected their winners.

“We’re very excited to see the impact the updated map will have on the thousands of Australians experiencing incontinence, by identifying nearby toilet facilities that suit their individual needs,” said Mr Cockerell.

This year’s dunny hunt attracted more than 770 entries, 1900 photo and 150 new facilities to the ever-expanding map.

Honourable mentions for the public toilet in the quirkiest spot went to Loop 1 in Zuytdorp, Western Australia.

An honourable mention for the most colourful public toilets went to Princes Park in Battery Point, Tasmania and Macquarie Park in Warren, New South Wales.
