The Bundaberg Regional Council announced its official 2023 Christmas program on Thursday, with some new events replacing events of 2022, such as the Botanic Gardens Christmas Village.
Tried and true favourites like the Pageant of Lights will make a return on November 30, following keen demand from locals in 2022.
Mayor Jack Dempsey said the Pageant of Lights was “a special and traditional celebration of the festive season for our community”.
“It will also mark the official turning on of the Christmas lights and we hope that Santa will be able to take some time out of his busy schedule to come and help us celebrate,” Mr Dempsey said.
More than 70 entries have already come forward for the popular pageant, with locals interested in entering their own float encouraged to contact the council.
Mr Dempsey said he hoped the official start of the Christmas program would bring some cheer to struggling locals.
“We’ve had enough going on across our community current with fires and natural disasters,” he said.
A new event titled Christmas in the Precinct is set to be a key attraction for the region, with local musicians performing alongside national favourites, including Marina Prior, Ricki-Lee and the Diamonds.
The free event will take place at 2pm on Saturday, December 9, in the Bundaberg Recreational Precinct.
“The new event will be fun for the whole family as we partner with Mumma’s Nest Markets and deliver a concert headlined by Marina Prior,” councillor John Learmonth said.
