Christmas magic comes to town as decorated payphones get direct line to Santa
Telstra has transformed 35 Bundaberg payphones into magical portals to the North Pole, allowing children to dial Santa for free until Christmas Eve.
The magic of Christmas is well and truly alive with more than 30 payphones around Bundaberg now connected to Santa’s workshop in the North Pole.
For a limited time, children across the region can use one of the 35 decorated payphones to connect to Santa by dialling #Ho Ho Ho.
The free calls to Santa will remain available on any decorated Telstra public phone until Christmas Eve (when Santa’s hard work begins).
A festive payphone map on Telstra’s website details reveals the magical phones.
While most are located around the Bundaberg CBD, children in South Kolan, Moore Park Beach, Bargara and Coral Cove can also share in the Christmas wonder.
About 60 per cent of calls come from coastal areas, while regional calls account for about 15%.
More than 1000 calls were made to Santa across the Bundaberg region last December.
The initiative first kicked off in 2021 as a way to not only spread Christmas cheer, but also teach children how to properly use payphones in the age of smartphones.
Telstra spokesman Jana Kotatko said ahead of the 2025 launch “kids can chat about everything from reindeer snacks to how things are tracking in the lead up to Christmas up at the North Pole”.
