The Oculists is the newest optometrist coming to Bundaberg and the husband and wife team behind the business are promising points of difference to other retail chains.

Jennifer Chi and Stephen Everard have 30 years of experience as optometrists and will be opening their own clinic in the Kepnock Town Centre.

Having worked across Australia and New Zealand, their extensive background in the optical industry has culminated in the creation of their own practice, which embodies their vision of a state-of-the-art facility with advanced technology, an efficient clinic flow and a welcoming atmosphere.

“The Oculists is our very first business,” Ms Chi said.

“The process has been quite lengthy, especially since it’s just the two of us handling everything without a large support team.”

They chose the Kepnock centre for its growing potential and local appeal, providing a prime location for residents and visitors of Bargara.

Originally slated to open about mid-July, the practice has faced delays and is now expected to launch in September.

“It’s just part and parcel of the building trade,” Ms Chi said.

“If one part of the process gets delayed, everything else is pushed back.”

The Oculists has hired two dedicated team members, an experienced optical dispenser and an ophthalmic assistant.

They are still seeking an additional part-time or casual staff member.

The couple, who relocated from New Zealand to Bundaberg in 2017, has embraced the region’s tropical climate and community.

Mr Everard previously worked at The Optical Superstore, known for his thoroughness and professionalism, while Ms Chi served as a clinical optometrist for Dr Jai Panchapakesan, caring for private patients and those through Wide Bay Health and Hospital services.

The community can stay updated and connect with them via their social media pages on Facebook and Instagram.

Looking ahead, the duo is eager to see the business vision come to life.

“It will be very exciting and very real once we get the keys to our store,” Ms Chis said.

“We can’t wait to get in there and start unpacking everything we have sourced and make the place feel homely and inviting.

“Our focus is on providing exceptional care with longer appointments and customised solutions for our patients,” Ms Chi said.
