When loyal customers would ask why she didn’t have her own store, Mrs Shao would say her personal insecurities held her back.
“My answer has always been ‘I have no confidence in myself’,” she said.
“To be honest, it’s a very tough journey and I have wanted to give up on doing nails as it gets very stressful at some points.”
Mrs Shao credits the support of her family in opening the shop, and said without their help she may not have had the confidence to make her dream come true.
“I never thought I could have my own salon as it takes a lot of courage and needs lot of support,” she said.
“Luckily, I have both, my 11 weeks old baby girl gave me the courage and confidence, my husband and my family have supported me financially and mentally.”
The store employs four nail technicians and focuses on intricate nail art.
“When I imagine making people’s nails look beautiful and see the smile on their faces, I just feel so proud of what I have achieved today,” she said.
The business operates 8am-8pm Monday to Friday and 9am-5pm on weekends at Shop 40, Hinkler Central.
