Gin Gin Roadhouse to change into Caltex

The Gin Gin Roadhouse could be in line for a major redevelopment which the owner estimates will increase trade by more than 40 per cent. See the plans.

The increased bowsers and improved food and drink outlet is expected to drive 230 vehicles per hour through the site, an increase of 43 percent on existing traffic.

The Gin Gin Roadhouse could receive an extensive facelift as fuel giant Chevron rebrands its newly acquired Puma service stations.

Chevron has lodged an application with Bundaberg Regional Council to redevelop the service station on Mulgrave Street, the stretch of the Bruce Highway passing through Gin Gin.

Named: Waves’ players who will make all the difference in 2023

The development is the latest in a series of upgrades planned for the 360 service stations acquired by Chevron Downstream Fuels Australia through the takeover of Puma Energy (Australia) Holdings in 2020 for $425m.

The proposed redevelopment will replace all existing buildings with a new Caltex-branded service station and food and drink outlet with a total footprint of 586 sqm.

Two new bowsers will be added, one each for trucks and cars, bringing the total to four standard and three diesel bowsers.

The added bowsers and improved food and drink outlet is expected to drive 230 vehicles per hour through the site, an increase of 43 per cent on existing traffic.

The application noted it was a conservative estimate based on Chevron’s view at the time that the food and drink outlet would likely be a smaller chain such as Subway, rather than a larger company such as McDonalds.

Shock development in battle to save beloved Queenslander

In a 2022 meeting of Bundaberg Regional Council, the council requested that an acoustic barrier be implemented at the southern border of the site in order to minimise the effect of noise from the increased traffic passing through the site on the adjoining site currently occupied by the Gin Gin Motel.

The development will install new underground fuel tanks, which are safer than the existing above ground fuel tanks.

The development application was lodged with the council on March 7, 2023.

The caravan park that adjoins the current service station will not be changed by the planned development.
