No expense was spared for the lavish Hampton’s style wedding of Barbera family patriarch Giatano ‘Guy’ Barbera at the Bundaberg Port Marina on the weekend.

More than 200 guests all dressed in white attended the soiree, with security guards posted around the entire marina, controlling access to a lawn with a roped-off area containing rows of chairs facing a wedding arch and the Burnett River.

A large white marquee with dining tables stood ready for the reception dinner to follow the ceremony, with a relaxed mood prevailing as vocalist performed easy-listening songs to greet the guests.

ASIC found nine companies of which Mr Barbera was the director had failed to pay superannuation and payroll tax and had not kept proper financial records, and had allowed one company, Barbera Transport, to trade while insolvent.

At the time of his disqualification the companies run by Mr Barbera owed more than $53.1 million to unsecured creditors.

No charges were laid against Guy Barbera for conduct related to the ASIC disqualification.

Earlier this month, a web page promoting the wedding of Mr Barbera and Katey Mahoney was published on a publicly accessible wedding planning website.

FARMING COMPANY OWED $16M TO CREDITORS

Bundaberg Farming, a company directed by Robert Barbera, went into liquidation in March 2024 owing $16 million to creditors including $1.5 million in wages and superannuation owed to 215 employees.

In the report sent to creditors on April 5 by the liquidator, WLP Restructuring, Mr Livingston invited any unidentified creditors for Bundaberg Farming to submit a proof of debt form as a claim for funds recovered through the liquidation.

The wedding website said of Guy Barbera’s youngest brother that Robert, 51, was “literally his best man”.

“Guy has an extremely special bond with his brother,” the website reads.

“Robbie is someone Guy can always count on and trust.”
