Bundaberg’s iconic Busy Bee Fish Bar has taken out top spot in a poll asking readers to vote on their favourite hot chip.
The poll was compiled from nominations put forward by the public and more than 100 locals cast a vote.
Busy Bee’s Sandy Li and Eddie Oh said they were honoured to take out the title.
Busy Bee’s history in the region goes back a long way, with the original fish and chip shop opening 72 years ago under the ownership of Douglas and Stella Lung.
Decades later, the Busy Bee baton passed to Kent and Lin Wong, but with the sad passing of Mr Wong earlier this year, son Andrew knew the shop needed to be in good hands.
That’s when Sandy and Eddie took it on board.
The new owners gave a very special shout-out.
“Thank you for Lin Wong and Andrew Wong, who told us how to make battered chips,” they said.
“We will keep doing the best freshly real potato chippies and keep continuing give good memories to the young generation and thank you for people to support us.”
The Targo Street shop had originally been a fresh seafood venue before changing it up to serve hot food and the famous battered chips.
