The region’s most significant hotel development in more than 20 years will go ahead with no infrastructure costs after Bundaberg Regional Council backed the project with a hefty infrastructure discount worth more than $750,000.

The MVP Airport Hotel, a three-storey, 97-room facility complete with a pool, restaurant, and conference space planned for Airport Drive, Kensington, is being supported by the Projects of Regional Significance (PORS) initiative.

The scheme offers discounts of up to 100 per cent off infrastructure projects for developments which have a value in excess of $15 million, will provide more than

50 additional direct jobs or that Council considers would have a special community or environmental benefit.

At its ordinary meeting on May 28, 2024, Council approved the initial PORS application for a hotel at 45 Airport Drive, offering the developer a 100 per cent discount

on the then infrastructure charges – valued at $654,292.46.
This incentive was contingent upon the development being completed by May 31, 2026.
The completion date of the project has also been pushed a further 12 months.
However, in order to make the project more viable, MVP applied for more rooms.
The original design included 48 standard rooms, four disability access rooms, and eight rooms with spas, the new plan brought the number of rooms to 97.
