BUNDABERG kids do not play around when choosing their favourite toys, opting for the classics over the latest designs.

The Australian Toy Association announced this week the overall and boys’ toy of the year as Hunter Products’ Paper Jamz Guitar, with ZHU ZHU Pets The New Generation as the girls’ favourite.

Bundaberg Toy World employee Anthony Morgan said this was not particularly the case in town, with most kids still opting for Barbies, Lego and Toy Story character figurines.

“They are our most popular toys,” Mr Morgan said.

“They don’t ever seem to go out of style.”

The annual toy awards pinpoint the toys predicted to be the next big thing in the industry.

Mr Morgan said he expected the award-winning toys to hit shelves following this weeks’ Toy, Hobby and Nursery Fair.

“They will most likely become available in the next few weeks,” he said.

Mr Morgan said he had worked at Toy World for about four years and said the products were not just for kids.

“I don’t think anyone really ever outgrows toys,” he said.

“Especially the boys. We always have older people in here buying things like models and puzzles.”

Other award winning toys include:

- Lego Duplo Play with Numbers – Pre-school toy of the year.

- Sole Skate – Outdoor toy of the year.

- Yummy Dough Edible Play Dough – Craft Activity toy of the year.

- 3 Stage Super Seat – Nursery product of the year
