BUNDY born and raised Andrew Wong is proving the city has plenty of talent after making it to the semi-finals of television show Australia’s Got Talent.

The mixed martial artist has chopped, kicked and jumped his way through the audition process and is now counting on the Bundaberg community to get him to the grand final.

The self-described underdog said he was confident he would do the community proud if he made it.

“I’ve made it through against all the odds and now I really need people to vote for me,” he said.

This was Mr Wong’s third attempt to make it on to the show.

“It just shows that persistence pays off,” he said.

“I really want to get my name out there.”

Last night in the semi-final round, Mr Wong displayed a mix of almost 10 martial arts styles, which he has been studying for about eight years.

The outgoing former teacher, whose parents own the Busy Bee takeaway in Targo Street, said the Bundaberg community could help him by calling and texting their votes, which would determine which of the competitors made it to the final.

“The voting started last night and will go until midday on Friday,” Mr Wong said.

“I really think that if everyone in Bundy put in a vote for me I could make it to the finals.

“My parents own the Busy Bee and a lot of people know me from working there when I was younger.”

Mr Wong said the audition process was a different experience.

“At first I didn’t know if I would get through, but Kyle said if I could jump and kick the microphone above me then I could go through and I did,” he said.

“I was so focused on kicking the microphone that I forgot about landing and came down straight on my back.”

Mr Wong’s audition has had thousands of hits on YouTube by fans very eager to watch his performance.

The martial artist said his lifelong dream was to be an actor.

“I have been pursuing an acting career for a long time,” he said.

“I have had a part on The Strip as a Japanese tourist and I was in a drama documentary named Sisters of War and in a Danish film named At World’s End.

“I even tried out for Beauty and the Geek.”
