Bundaberg suburbs and what it says about the people who live there

Ever wondered what your Bundaberg suburb says about you? HERE’S THE FULL LIST:

Does the saying, “birds of a feather flock together” ring true when it comes to identifying personality types in our suburbs?

One of our reporters put together this entertaining list. What does yours say about you?

Alloway – Sugarcane and small crop central. If you don’t have either of these, you have animals, including a horse or two. Or ten.

Ashfield – Dedicated to their linen cupboard. Kmart is their secret weapon.

Avenell Heights – Have trouble keeping their dogs in their yards. Loves a chat with the neighbour.

Avoca – If you’re not a kid on a scooter, you’re a dog owner who appreciates V8’s and a cold bevvy. Patriotic community members of “the 4670 brah!”.

Avondale – Cow or horse owners. Most likely both.

Bargara – The true well-to-doers of the region. Doctors, lawyers, teachers, media professionals and government employees live here. Weekend brunches are their lifeline.

Branyan – Outdoorsy types. Family-orientated. If you’re not a local when you move here, and locals ask where in Branyan you live, they start throwing weird names of housing estates at you. What the hell is a Kentucky Bluegrass?

Bundaberg Central – They mean well.

Bundaberg East – Proud boat or motorcycle owners. Describe themselves as “hardworking”. Family-orientated. Tinder aficionados.

Bundaberg North – Too worried about flooding to care about much else. The people who buy up all the bread and milk when it rains.

Bundaberg West – See “Avoca”.

Bundaberg South – The real appreciators of a Bundy Rum and the nearby Dan Murphy’s.

Burnett Heads – Unique folk. Boat or beach shack owners.

Calavos – Somewhere in the middle about where Woongarra and Alloway is. Nobody, even the people who live there, really knows for sure.

Childers – Red dirt and utes. Big fans of a local watering hole.

Coral Cove – Too fancy for Bargara. If they had a favourite spice girl, it would be Posh.

Elliott Heads – Hippies at heart. Recycling warriors. “Earthing” on the sand gives them vitality. Not keen on development.

Fairymead – Bundaberg North but with a touch more class.

Gooburrum – Farmers and champagne gurus.

Goodwood – Old timers live here and are still working on that vintage car or truck from the 60s.

Electra – Where?

Innes Park – Most likely a water sign on the astrological chart. Love a surf, canoe, paddleboard or kayak; anything that involves H2O and a spontaneous outdoor adventure.

Kalkie – Keep to themselves. Low key, fly-under-the-radar types.

Kensington – Titan shed owners.

Kepnock – The home of Bundaberg’s sporting parents. Devoted ALDI shoppers.

Meadowvale – Hobby farmers, most likely have an honesty box business out the front of their home. Herb fanatics.

Millbank – Green thumbs. Love tending to their flower garden or veggie patch. Grateful of their proximity to the hospital.

Mon Repos – Turtles, kangaroos, and more turtles.

Moore Park – Different breed to more central Bundabergians. Owners of a 1990s wagon or 4WD that hasn’t been serviced in a while.

Norville – Loves a “baptism” at the Norville Pool on a hot summer’s day. Mixed bag of personality types live here.

Oakwood – Strawberry pickers or farmers.

Qunaba – Well-to-do farmers and retirees who are sick of people not knowing where Qunaba is, but have found saying “where the hummock is” works perfectly fine.

Redridge – Hiding from the rest of society.

Rosedale – Animal lovers. Still not sure whether they’re living in the Bundaberg or Gladstone region.

Rubyanna – Sugarcane, snakes and not much else.

Sharon – Will talk your ear off about the great service at the local servo. Ride-on mowers are the preferred mode of transport.

Svensson Heights – Hairdressers and tradesmen live here.

South Bingera – Retirees with a property. Either a keen fisherman or own a candle business. Rarely both, but it is possible.

South Kolan – Environmentally conscious out-of-towners. If they’re not vegetarian or vegan, they’re totally digging the steaks at the South Kolan pub.

Thabeban – Tattooed. Don’t mind a little drama to spice up their life. The best friend you’ll ever have. Likely owners of a Harley Davidson motorcycle.

Walkervale – Showstoppers when it comes to fashion. Self-appointed wine connoisseurs or coffee snobs. Arty types. Most likely have a clay-earring or micro brewery side-hustle.

Welcome Creek – Not very welcoming.

Windermere – Old souls. The suburb that road is on to get places.

Winfield – Holiday homes owned by local business people who desperately need to disconnect from the hell of customer service.

Woodgate – Will be quick to let you know that they are proud owners of their “little slice of paradise” well away from the “hustle and bustle” of Bundaberg.

Woongarra – Old-generation farming territory. Fences don‘t exist, or haven’t been fixed in a few decades.
