What once stood as an iconic Bundaberg church and pharmacy has turned into a restoration success for one lucky Bundaberg resident who gave part of the church a new life.
Emergency crews were called to the former Church Pharmacy on the corner of Woongarra and Barolin Streets just before 6am on April 6, 2016, to contain a blaze that gutted the back of the building.
That part of the building received significant damage and has since undergone a full modern transformation.
Shortly after the incident, Bundaberg resident Peita Osborne who admired the doors of the old pharmacy, pulled into the site after hearing they would be sold through a demolition shop.
“We loved them, even when they were in the church,” she said.
“The demolition people who pulled the church down were going to resell them, but we pulled into the church one day and asked if we could buy them on-site.
“We took a chance and asked and we bought both sets.
“We have nearly had them five years.
“One set was restored by me and took 2 years to restore.”
The restored set now open up to a beautiful bathroom in Peita’s home.
Peita stored away the second set but has put them up for sale on the Bundaberg Classifieds Facebook page.
“We have a spare set for someone who loves old things,” the post reads.
“They come up beautiful either stained or painted.”
The doors are currently selling for $3000 for the set.
