People and animals in the region will be trying their best to cool down after news the heat is only set to get worse, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.

People and pets alike will be doing whatever they can to cool off in coming days, with sizzling hot temps predicted for Bundaberg and the Burnett.

Bundaberg and its surrounding townships received between 70-100mm of rain overnight in most places but the rural Bundaberg town of Moolboolaman received the most rain of anywhere overnight Wednesday with 126mm recorded.

Bureau forecaster Helen Reid said the massive Moolboolaman downpour was the highest recorded rainfall total for the entire bureau network on Wednesday.

But the region may not see storms again until the weekend, with a sizzling hot Friday predicted without the reprieve of subsequent rainfall.

“It’s not looking brilliant, with a continuing theme of (temperatures in the) low 30s,” Ms Reid said.

“Increasing in feelings of humidity, moisture content increasing. It’ll just feel particularly unpleasant.”

And there’s no break in sight, either. Humid conditions are set to continue for the foreseeable future.

“It’s going to take a while,” Ms Reid said.

Temps in Bundaberg are expected to peak at 33 on Thursday and Friday.

Humidity has been sitting around 70-80 per cent.

Conditions will be even more painful in the North Burnett, with Gayndah expected to hit 35 degrees on Thursday and 36 on Friday before temps start to come back down to the low 30s.
