Bullyard State School’s 125th anniversary mural wins state award
A tiny rural school with just 29 students has taken out Queensland's Keep Australia Beautiful mural crown with its community-created masterpiece.
A small rural primary school about 30 minutes from the heart of Bundaberg has been crowned the Queensland state champion of the Keep Australia Beautiful mural competition.
With just 29 students Bullyard State School in the Burnett region has proven it is small but mighty, taking home the state title, and setting its sights on becoming national champion.
The mural was created by staff, students, families and friends to celebrate the school’s 125th anniversary and captures the essence of the Bullyard Beetle Way.
The Bullyard Beetle Way guides students on how to interact with each other and the environment, embodying values such as respect, responsibility, safety and learner.
To reflect this, the artwork features the school’s house teams, Fraser and Clarke, its first building from 1901, gardens, orchards, bees and, of course, bullyard beetles.
The school is proud to be Queensland’s finalist and hopes its tiny team can take home the national title.
