POLICE will today decide whether to search a sunken trawler boat for missing Bundaberg fishermen David Chivers and Matt Roberts.

The families of the men have taken to social media as they wait for a decision. David's wife Lyn Chivers shared a message from the Roberts family on her Facebook page and said she hoped the authorities would make the right decision.

"So we have had to wait a week now for minimal information about the plan to clear the boat for my Dad and David," the post read.

"We were told early on in the search that they would send deep divers to clear the boat if it had sunk to below 30m, or look at raising the boat if safe enough. The boat is currently at 47m."

Mrs Chivers said she just needed an answer and hoped a decision would be made to search the vessel.

"I just want answers and conformation as to where my husband and Matt are," the grieving wife said.

"And to do that they need to dive the boat. These seven days have been hard enough as it is ... not knowing is even harder."

The post said the family understood there were safety for divers and they didn't want anyone to risk their lives.

"Markwell fisheries put in a request for contracted divers to search the boat ,which was rejected by the water police," the family said.

"This now becomes a thing about money it seems and they have now forgotten that there are two men still out there with a high possibility they are in the boat, and two families with a lot of friends who are waiting for their men to be brought home.

"Let's hope they make the right decision today and very early on. Imagine if this was their family members."

The NewsMail spoke with Queensland Police which advised a request had been made and details would be released later today.
