From music festivals and barbecue battles to buffets by the river and craft workshops, there is something for every member of the family to look forward to next month.
To celebrate the start of May here is a list of just some of the upcoming events in Bundaberg.
Bundaberg Barbecue Battle
Kicking off on Friday enjoy a weekend long barbecue event like no other, when 4BU’s Bundaberg Barbecue Battle returns to the region.
Whether you’re competing to take home the title, judging the tough competition or just interested checking out the pityard and market stalls, there is plenty to see and do.
Categories range from brisket, chicken, lamb and beef or pork ribs.

An evening with John Butler
Known for being a talented singer, songwriter and guitarist, John Butler from the The John Butler Trio will be performing live in Bundaberg.
The APRA and ARIA award-winning musician is bringing his solo show to the Moncrieff next month to perform songs from his vast catalogue and share stories from the road and his heart.

Agrotrend
A two-day farming and lifestyle focused exhibition is coming to Bundaberg – the home to one of the largest agriculture and horticulture sectors in southern Queensland.
See the latest advancements in farming technology, cheer on your favourites in the Australian Alpaca competition and check out the agility dog and poultry displays.
The Agrotrend exhibition is an initiative by the Rotary Club of Bundaberg.

MAKI Festival
The maker movement is on the rise in Bundaberg and here is an opportunity for the local creatives to put their skills into action.
MAKI Festival offers participants to explore technology, invention and creativity with a range of workshops that focuses on applying critical thinking, problem solving and decision making.
Suited to all ages this creative festival helps participants to be innovative and tap into science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) industries.

Sounds of Rock
Burnett Heads will be blasting the sound of rock and roll next month when a very special music festival hits the coast.
Music legends including Daryl Braithwaite, The Black Sorrows and Thirsty Merc will hit the local stage to perform smash hits as part of the Sounds of Rock music festival.
Sounds of Rock is a strictly 18+ event.

Bones of Women – The documentary screening
Locally made documentary Bones of Women will screen at the Moncrieff Entertainment Centre next month.
The long-awaited documentary follows the stories of Liana Allison and Noni Croft – who both managed to overcome childhood trauma and grow into resilient, successful and empowering women.
Bundaberg local Sarah Tump is the brains behind this inspiring documentary which was filmed at Oodies Cafe in 2019.
The screening event is strictly 16 years and older.

Childers Show
After more than 100 years of hosting the Childers Show, the annual event will return on May 22.
The family-friendly day will be filled with market stalls, food vendors and rides among other fun activities.

Mother’s Day by the river
Treat mum to a buffet breakfast or brunch by the river followed by a day of markets and live music by Tahli Thomas.
Ashleigh Bowman from Somewhere to Eat will be catering the breakfast and lunch buffets with plenty of tasty options available.
Breakfast features scrambled, fried and poached eggs, fried tomato, sauteed mushrooms, beans, ham, sausages, bacon, corn fritters, hash browns, savoury mince, croissants, fried steak with onion gravy, pancakes, toast, fresh fruit, yoghurt, granola, muffins and danishes.

Free concert on Mother’s Day
But that’s not the only way to celebrate the special mothers in your life this year with the option of a free concert too.
The Bundy Brass Municipal Band will be playing on the afternoon of Mother’s Day from the rotunda in Alexandra Park.
Bring your own seats, food and refreshments and sit back and enjoy the free show.

Shine Bright Festival
The local art gallery will be showcasing some of the region’s best talent with a program full of live performances and visual art.
Featuring dance, live music and artworks which are projected onto the surroundings, the gallery and park will light up and come to life.
Purchase food and drinks from the bar, kick back and immerse yourself in the arts.
The Savour exhibition will be held in gallery one and Invested – The Vault and In The Shed will be held in gallery two.
Central Queensland Regional Arts Services Network (CQRASN) will present the festival.
