Attendees keen to put their coin on one of the 23-strong field watched the big race and other thrilling events on numerous TV screens, with groans from the unlucky punters drowned out by those cheering on their big win.

The Melbourne Hotel Fashions on the Field competition was a stylish highlight, awarding $2000 in cash and prizes.
