Queensland suburbs have gone head-to-head to determine which postcode has the most homes with rooftop solar, with Bundaberg leading the way.
Bundaberg has also come out on top in the national solar stakes, with more than 15,600 solar PV customers, while Hervey Bay and Caloundra are second and third in the Queensland rankings.
The Sunshine State continues to lead the nation in rooftop solar overall, with Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk revealing that more than 722,000 homes use the energy source.
“Together, Queensland’s homes account to over 3.5GW capacity; that’s more generation capacity than Queensland’s two largest power stations combined,” Ms Palaszczuk said.
“I want to thank every Queenslander who has helped lower electricity prices and our carbon footprint by installing solar panels on their home – your home is part of Queensland’s biggest power station, powering the state.”
New solar systems are connected every 11 minutes across Queensland, according to Deputy Premier Steven Miles.
“Queensland not only leads the nation but also the world in rooftop solar,” Mr Miles said.
“While rooftop solar supplied 8.9 per cent of Queensland’s total energy needs last financial year, in the middle of the day it can represent more than 40 per cent of generation.”
Also included in the top 10 is Toowoomba with about 12,200 solar customers, while Ipswich is in 10th position with more than 9300 customers.
