Brunswick St incident: Son charged with murder after woman found dead with stab wounds

The man accused of murdering his mother has been identified following a horrifying discovery after police forced their way into a Fortitude Valley apartment at the end of what neighbours described as days of “partying”.

The man who was on Tuesday night charged with murder after his mother was found dead with stab wounds in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley has been named.

Police were called for a welfare check about 11am on Tuesday at the Central Brunswick Apartment Hotel in Brunswick St after a request from family members.

Inspector Karl Hahne said officers had to force their way into the unit, where they found the woman.

Steven Rhain Pinker, 42, of Fortitude Valley was on Tuesday night charged with the murder (domestic violence offence) of a 66-year-old West Australian woman.

According to court documents the mother was allegedly murdered “on or about” Sunday.

His case was mentioned briefly in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

An application for bail for murder cannot be made in the magistrates court.

The case was adjourned until April 29.

Pinker, who did not appear in court, was remanded in custody.

Inspector Hahne said police would process the scene into the night and were trying to establish what had happened.

A neighbour, Vanessa, lives next to the top-floor unit where she saw investigators in blue forensic suits entering.

She said she left her unit on Tuesday morning and did not hear any disturbance but claimed she had heard “partying” in the unit for the past two nights.
