Southbound traffic on Brisbane’s Centenary Highway was left backed up for 12 kilometres following a crash that has blocked a lane.

The crash occurred about 3.30pm in the right-hand lane of the highway prior to the Monier Road exit.

Delays stretched back 12 kilometres to Toowong at their peak, but have begun to ease.

A woman was taken to Royal Brisbane Hospital as a precaution after the .

Meanwhile, a primary school-age girl has been hit by a vehicle in Brisbane’s west this afternoon.

Paramedics were called to Brookfield Road in Brookfield at 3:36pm and assessed the girl.

She was taken to Queensland Children’s Hospital in a serious but stable condition with injuries to her shoulder and lower limbs.

Traffic is also building on the Bruce Highway near Mackay after a campervan crashed into a tree at 3:35pm.

Paramedics are currently on scene treating a woman with a serious head injury.

Earlier, traffic was building on the Bruce Highway on the Sunshine Coast after a truck and car collided just before 12.50pm.

Southbound traffic has been delayed up to 30 minutes in the Forest Glen area.

A man in his 80s and a woman in her 70s were treated by paramedics at the scene and were to be transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital with suspected spinal injuries.

The man also suffered lower limb injuries and the woman reported having back pain.

An ambulance spokeswoman said the pair were both in a stable condition.

Traffic was flowing freely again by 2.30pm.
