A ZIPLINE in one of Brisbane’s most visited spots, Mt Coot-tha, is a step closer after council asked for expressions of interest to help develop the adrenaline-inducing ride.
The $1.8m project is part of a major upgrade to the parklands, flagged in this year’s council budget.
Council wants to partner with the private sector and has put aside $150,000 in this year’s budget. Another $1.7 million will be spent over the next two financial years.
Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said the zipline would be help make the area “a destination precinct.”
“This will allow adrenaline-junkies to weave through the tree canopy to experience a unique angle of Mt Coot-tha,” Cr Quirk said.
The inner-western Brisbane reserve is the city’s second most visited destination behind South Bank, according to council figures, which show about one million people visit the summit area each year.
Cr Quirk said almost $15 million would be pumped into Mt Coot-tha over the next four years “to create an adventure and eco-tourism destination for both domestic and overseas visitors.”
Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said the final location would be determined in partnership with the successful operator.
