The Bureau of Meteorology has assured Brisbane locals that the city is in for a rain-free Riverfire despite a potentially soggy start to the weekend.

Senior Meteoroligist Bradley Wood said despite some rain expected throughout Friday and Saturday, it should clear up by the time festivities begin.

“On Friday we’re expecting partly cloudy conditions in the morning, with rain to develop into the afternoon and evening” he said.

“Late Friday into the middle half of Saturday we are expecting around 20 to 40mm of rainfall throughout South East Queensland, with a majority of that rain expected to fall during the overnight period”

“Heading into the rest of Saturday we’ll be seeing a clearing trend, leaving relatively nice and clear conditions for Riverfire”.

Mr Wood added that slightly below-average temperatures are expected over the next few days, with a forecast maximum temperature of 23C on Friday, and 21C on Saturday.

There is a 10 per cent chance of rain returning on Monday, increasing to 40 per cent on Tuesday and Wednesday and a 60 per cent chance on Thursday.

Temperatures for the River City will hover around the 20-22C degree mark for the week.
