Brisbane shoppers ignore COVID-19 warnings

A large crowd has been spotted standing together outside a Brisbane Aldi store, despite warnings about social distancing.

SHOCKING images have revealed Queenslanders still aren’t following social distancing measures urged by health officials to halt the spread of the deadly coronavirus.

Pictures reveal a swarm of people huddled at the doors of ALDI at West End, waiting to get into the supermarket early this morning.

The group includes the elderly and the young, some wearing masks and gripping their shopping trolleys, spilling out onto the footpath around the store, clearly not abiding by the advice to ensure you are 1.5 metres from the nearest person.

It comes as the coronavirus pandemic has fuelled a panic buying frenzy that has seen supermarkets unable to restock shelves in time to keep up with frenzied purchases.

Earlier this week a healthcare worker finishing a long shift at a Gold Coast hospital was shocked to see revellers gathered outside a pizza shop in Canungra as she drove home.

“We’re putting all of our coronavirus strategies in place, we’re hearing news of one in 10 healthcare workers getting the virus overseas and then I drive past and see this,” she said.
