A MAN kayaking in Moreton Bay has had a piece of his board bitten off by a shark, just 8km shy of the Brisbane mainland.
The Maroochydore man, 39, was paddling with a group of people off Woody Point heading towards Mud Island when his kayak was attacked by a shark.
Water Police responded to a Triple 0 call and tracked the man using incoming aircraft to Brisbane Airport.
He was pulled from the water shortly before 4pm uninjured but badly shaken.
His 6.5m kayak has had the end bitten off.
Sergeant Gordon Thiry from Brisbane Water Police said it was fortunate they were able to find the man in time.
“We would encourage anyone heading out on the water to always wear a life jacket, carry an EPIRB and make sure you let someone else know where you’re travelling to and how long it will take,” he said.
