A BRISBANE motorist has returned to their car spot to find a huge ‘illegally parked’ sticker pasted to their rear window.

VIGILANT Brisbane City Council parking officers are slapping stickers on cars discourteously parked in spaces reserved for parents with young children requiring prams.

A passer-by recently took a photo of this vehicle at King George Square car park which had a “This car is ILLEGALLY parked!” sticker on the rear windscreen.

A BCC spokesman said the driver was not fined but “issued with a warning sticker” although it was doubtful the motorist could be issued a ticket.

The BCC did not respond directly to a question about the amount of the fine associated with parking in a ‘pram’ space.

“King George Square car park users are subject to all parking regulations and infringements as defined under the State Government’s road rules,” the BCC spokesman said.

“Motorists parking in contravention of signed parking in King George Square car park can be subject to fines and their vehicle may be towed.”

Is this the world's worst parker?

However, a Queensland police spokesman told The Courier-Mail that there was no regulated penalty for parking in a space designated for parents with children requiring prams.

A BCC spokesman said there were only five spaces out of almost 500 spaces at King George Square for motorists with prams.

“This vehicle was parked in a car park allocated for motorists with young children requiring prams, however, the driver was not accompanied by children,” the BCC spokesman said.

“Unnecessarily parking in a parents’ car park not only contravenes the regulations of the car park, but denies families the chance to park in these spaces.

“This motorist was not fined, but issued with a warning sticker placed on their car.”

Ironically, if the sticker was not immediately removed, the motorist may be liable for a fine for driving a vehicle without a clear view in all directions.
