The countdown is on with eager runners preparing for Brisbane’s favourite fun run months out from the big day.
Running crews have been assembled across the river city in preparation for the Sunday Mail Bridge to Brisbane on August 29.
Anytime Fitness club manager and personal trainer Bec Giles said she had assembled her team with trainers and members, offering her best tips for participants.
“Generally the Bridge to Brisbane is awesome because you can walk it,” she said.
“It’s great for any fitness level to give it a go but I wouldn’t go cold turkey into it, build up a little bit of fitness first.”
Ms Giles said now was a good time to set goals for anyone wanting to reach a specific time.
“If you’re not a runner and you are planning on running it, working through some light runs or intervals will definitely be something I would include.”
Large groups and the right music could also go miles in keeping participants motivated.
“I think a little bit of weight based training is important for almost any sort of sport or fitness goal, it doesn’t have to be heavy, just to make sure that the muscles are well looked after and there are no imbalances.”
The keen runner said she was excited to take the track this year after the old route of the Gateway bridge returned.
“I’m super excited that it’s come back to the Gateway Bridge. Since they’ve changed it back to the original one it’s almost a bit nostalgic.”
