Dear Premier,
The coroner’s report into the death of our beloved Brendan Luxton confirmed our worst fears about the shambolic state of government processes at the time of his stay in hotel quarantine.
The report identifies six red flags about Brendan’s rapidly deteriorating mental state. Queensland Health’s ignorance of our pleas and its own failure to recognise or action any of these flags lost any opportunity of catching Brendan before he fell to a place of no return, ending in his death 24 hours after leaving hotel quarantine.
From the time we first requested a home quarantine solution for Brendan on July 4, 2020, we have respected the historical family connection with you and never sought to leverage that – we trusted in the system that has now been found as grossly unprepared.
The coroner’s damning report requires your attention. We believe this is just the tip of a large iceberg of unreported or unrecognised Covid-19 management issues, warranting a commission of inquiry into Queensland government’s handling of the pandemic.
You declined earlier requests for a meeting with us, citing the coronial process. With the coroner’s report now handed down, we ask again Premier, when would you like to set up our meeting?
Yours sincerely,
Marita and
John Corbett
