A Brazilian woman out celebrating her birthday tragically fell to her death while taking a “selfie” at sunset by the Brisbane River, her family has revealed.
Fernanda Morella was celebrating her 33rd birthday on Tuesday when she died in what police say was a tragic accident at the Kangaroo Point cliffs.
Ms Morella, an enthusiastic traveller who had spent time in Australia, Thailand and Indonesia, was remembered as a “sensitive and loving person” by devastated friends.
Emergency services were called to River Tce at 5pm after Ms Morella was found at the base of the cliffs.
Attempts were made to revive her but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her family, who are in Brazil, were informed of her death that night.
“Today she turned 33. (She) went for a selfie with the sunset and fell (off) the cliff,” one relative wrote, adding “I will love you forever.”
Grieving friends described her as a “beautiful” and “sensitive” person.
“I love you more than … I could say,” a close friend wrote in a social media post.
“At the moment, you can only say that.”
Another friend described Ms Morella as a “sensitive and loving person”.
“My friend fell yesterday watching the sunset,” the friend posted.
“(She) always called me, always loved me, always been present, wanted to be here for her birthday and sleep here at home but Sydney closed and she (wasn’t) able to come.
“We didn’t talk much this week but we always talk. Every week we video call. Yesterday was her birthday.”
Another wrote: “How it hurts to say goodbye … at these times, words are so shallow and can’t be enough to demonstrate our pain. You will always be in our hearts.”
“Thank you for ... giving us the privilege of having you in our lives.”
