A five-year-old boy has been taken to hospital after falling into a fire while camping.

The unwritten rules you need to know before camping

A five-year-old boy has been hospitalised after falling into a fire on Sunday morning at a campsite north west of Brisbane, with his dad saying it was a “warning” for other parents about the potential dangers of camping.

Emergency services were called to Somerset Park Campground just before 9am to reports of a child who had fallen into a fire in the area.

The child was treated for burns to his legs and back and was transported by helicopter to Queensland Children’s Hospital in Brisbane in a stable condition.

But the boy’s father Ryan told The Courier-Mail that the reality was much more extensive with his son Jack suffering burns to his hands, arms, back of legs and lower back.

“We are currently in the hospital and the response from Queensland Ambulance Service has been amazing,” he said.

“We have no news on the severity at this stage … Definitely a good warning for others.”

The campgrounds are near Somerset Dam which is around 70km inland of Caboolture.

A spokesman for the Somerset Park Campground declined to comment on the incident this morning.
