Heartbreaking search to identify body under bridge

Police have released an image of a piece of clothing an elderly woman was wearing, after her body was pulled from underneath a Gold Coast bridge. Sadly she had no ID and no-one has reported her missing.

Gold Coast Police are seeking public assistance to identify a deceased elderly woman whose body was found in the Nerang River at Southport on Friday morning.

While the woman’s death is still not being treated as suspicious, police have been unable to determine who the woman is as she did not have any identification with her when she was found and there have been no missing person’s reports listed for her.

The woman’s body was discovered under the Sundale Bridge.

Investigations are continuing but the woman’s death does not appear to be suspicious.

The woman is described being Caucasian in appearance, around 75-80 years old with short grey hair. She was wearing a purple and white floral buttoned shirt and dark blue long pants and no shoes.

Police said the case was a reminder for people to check on the welfare of their elderly neighbours or relatives particularly those living alone.
