Galaxy Research issues index shows Queensland voters losing faith in Anna Bligh's Government

A NEW graph shows how Labor and the LNP's fortunes have crossed over, with Anna Bligh now in a seemingly unwinnable poll position.

THIS is Anna Bligh's X factor, the graphs that show why Labor is hurtling towards a seemingly inevitable election defeat.

It reveals how voters have gradually lost faith in the Queensland Premier and her Government's ability to handle every issue this term.

And voters believe the Liberal Nationals would do a better job, even in areas where the Opposition is yet to put pen to paper and release policies.

Tracked by Galaxy Research exclusively for The Courier-Mail since 2006, the issues index reveals the gap between the parties has only been exacerbated since Campbell Newman's entry into the state arena.

While the poll shows a slight improvement for Labor, the gap between the parties is still bigger now than it has been throughout the five years since the poll has been undertaken.

Galaxy Research chief David Briggs said the survey's findings highlighted why voters had deserted Labor and sided with the LNP.

"We have got a tired government that the voters have lost confidence in and a rejuvenated LNP that is led by Campbell Newman," he said.

Mr Briggs said there had been a big jump in confidence in the LNP's ability to handle each issue since former leader John-Paul Langbroek was replaced.

The poll of 800 voters taken last week shows Labor scored 201 points out of a possible 600 compared with the LNP's 323.

This is a stark turnaround in fortunes since the last election when Labor led 271 points to the LNP's 241.

Health and public hospitals was the issue where voters were most critical of the Government's efforts, with 57 per cent of people believing the LNP would better handle the issues compared with Labor's 30 per cent.

The bungled introduction of the new health payroll is likely to have fed this discontent in an area where Labor has traditionally trounced its opponent.

But voters are just as unimpressed on almost every other issue.

The smallest gap is an 8 per cent lead held by the LNP on the issue of education, an area where Labor has undertaken significant reform.
