A young man is fighting for his life in hospital while his family are “praying for miracle” following a devastating crash in the Gympie region on the weekend.

Rykah Burr, 18, was one of two teenagers hospitalised with critical injuries after a car crashed into a tree at Wolvi on Sunday night at 8pm.

Paramedics treated two 18-year-olds, the driver and passenger, and flew them both to Brisbane hospitals for emergency treatment.

The third occupant, a 15-year-old girl, sustained knee injuries and was taken to Gympie Hospital.

Mr Burr’s aunt, Gabrielle Wallace, has created a GoFundMe page to raise costs for his treatment while he fights for his life.

“On the 11th of April my beautiful nephew Rykah was involved in a devastating car accident,” the page reads.

“It was a terrible accident where 2 of the 3 occupants sustained life threatening injuries.

“Rykah sadly did not regain consciousness after the accident and due to severe brain injury remains in an induced coma to allow his body the opportunity to try and heal the damage that has been done.

“Raising this money would mean Rykah’s family could keep their focus and energy on where it needs to be … with Rykah.”

The funds raised will contribute to the family’s stay while in Brisbane, travel costs, and future medical costs.

On Facebook, Ms Wallace described her nephew as a “beautiful, kind, funny and generous young man”.

“I have set up this GoFundMe to help support his family who are currently by his side in Brisbane.

“Donations will be used to support Rykah and his family while in Brisbane and to aide in recovery therapies.

“If you can’t donate please share and keep Rykah and his family in your thoughts and prayers.”

So far more than $2,000 has been raised for Rykah.
