A BIKIE was in court for another matter when police asked him to come back to the station. He did — and now he’s behind bars.

THE national president of the Bandidos motorcycle gang will remain behind bars awaiting a bail application later this week.

Jason Addison, 50, of Echuca in Victoria, has been charged with extortion, with police alleging he demanded a former gang member sign over a marble gravestone business, motorcycle and home or face personal harm.

Addison was arrested on the Sunshine Coast on Monday after attending Maroochydore Magistrates Court on a fraud and vehicle theft matter.

This was adjourned and as he left court, waiting police asked him to accompany them to the station where he was interviewed over fresh allegations.

Addison voluntarily agreed to go with them and appeared relaxed and calm.

He was later taken into custody and was brought from the watch-house when the new case was mentioned briefly on Tuesday.

His lawyer Mike Wardell, who has travelled from Ballarat in Victoria, asked for the matter to be adjourned until Friday when a bail application would be lodged.

His client looked frustrated when he realised he would have to remain behind bars for at least three more nights.

The investigation involved Taskforce Maxima detectives with assistance from the Sunshine Coast Gang Squad.

Police claim the alleged extortion victim was a former member of the Bandidos who had been kicked out of the club for complying with a law enforcement requirement in 2011.

They will allege the accused demanded the victim sign over his Sunshine Coast marble business, motorcycle and the family home, and threatened personal harm if he did not comply.

It will be alleged the victim, in fear of his and his family’s safety, transferred the business to a company operated by the accused.
