THE Sunshine Coast’s favourite zoo is continuing to expand and is now set to add a kids’ water park.

Zoo owner Terri Irwin today said construction of the brand new water play area had begun.

She said once open, the area would be open to all guests and include spectacular native wildlife sculptures, designed by Australia Zoo artists.

The Sunshine Coast Daily reports the water park will be above-ground and is eco-friendly, with specially designed recycled water components.

Ms Irwin said the water park was an exciting addition for guests to the Zoo.

“We are so excited to see this new area being created by our incredible team,” Terri said.

“Our enormous laughing frog will tip immense amounts of water after you hear him start croaking.

“We’ll have a giant squirting kookaburra, a huge water bubbling crocodile, and many more.

The development will continue with more dining options and even private cabanas, to roll out through 2018.
