Attempted murder charge after car allegedly driven at man in Mt Isa
A man has been charged with the attempted murder of a man known to him after police allege he drove his car onto the nature strip and into the path the other man, then set his vehicle on fire.

A man has been charged with attempted murder after police allege he drove his car at another man then set his vehicle on fire in Mt Isa on Tuesday afternoon.
Detectives allege that around midday on Dempsey Street, a 66-year-old Winston man struck a 54-year-old Mornington man, who is known to him, to the arm with an iron bar before entering his vehicle and driving onto the nature strip at the other man who was forced to jump out of the way.
At 1.30pm the man returned to the scene in his vehicle and allegedly drove directly at the other man who was standing on the nature strip. The 54-year-old fell onto the bonnet before the Winston man drove into a fence.
It is also alleged he then set fire to the Mornington man’s truck which was parked in a neighbouring yard, destroying it.
The 66-year-old has been charged with one count each of attempted murder, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of motor vehicle causing grievous bodily harm, assault occasioning bodily harm while armed, arson and serious obstruct.
He is due to appear in the Mount Isa Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
The 54-year-old was transported to Mount Isa Hospital where he remains with leg and arm injuries.
The men are known to each other.
