HAJNAL Black told a magistrate she'd been looking for her criminal law book and it had been raining when she failed to appear in a Beenleigh court this morning.

The Logan City Councillor told Magistrate Trevor Morgan why she failed to show up for proceedings at 9am, claiming she'd been searching for a book and the weather was bad.

Mr Morgan asked Ms Black whether she was serious.

She replied that she was.

He ordered the court hearing be adjourned until Friday at 9am and said the warrant for her arrest would lay on file until then.

"Whether or not you turn up tomorrow is a matter entirely for you," Mr Morgan said.

He would not hear Ms Black's objections that the date clashed with other matters, including filing documents in time for other proceedings in the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal.

Ms Black later labelled the charges against her in Beenleigh Magistrates Court as "trumped up" and "baseless".

Speaking to media outside the court house late today, Ms Black said the charges against her were "lunacy".

"They've pursued me for five charges criminally and they don't even have any admissable evidence," she said.

"They are running the justice system like QCAT, it's a kangaroo court.

"I tell you, this legal system needs a shake-up."

Ms Black had earlier told reporters she'd been going over her notes and points of law when she failed to appear in court this morning.

She was flanked by her husband, fellow councillor Cr Sean Black and her mother.

Earlier, Magistrate Trevor Morgan ordered the warrant for the arrest of Logan City Councillor Hajnal Black after she failed to appear at Beenleigh Magistrates Court

Ms Black kept the court waiting for more than half an hour before the warrant for her arrest was issued just after 10am.

Ms Black's husband Councillor Sean Black said he felt the decision to issue a warrant for Cr Hajnal Black's arrest was "heavy handed'', Quest reports.

He said his wife assumed all that was due today was a submission, and that she was not required to appear.

He said Hajnal would appear in court later today to face the arrest warrant.

Mr Morgan was to hand down his decision following a hearing last month into whether she failed to declare a pecuniary interest while working in public office.

Ms Black faces five charges brought about by the Department of Local government and Planning which stem from a Supreme Court decision last year that found she mishandled a dementia patient and retired barrister's money.

If found guilty, Ms Black could lose her job in public office.

She's been charged with failing to declare a joint savings account held with the elderly man, for failing to declare his relationship to her, for failing to declare her own business Dahlia International pty ltd, for failing to declare interest from an unsecured personal loan and for failing to declare a property at Mt Warren Park between August 12 2009 and October 28 2011.

Outside court, Ms Black's husband Sean Black addressed waiting media.

Mr Black, who is also a Logan City councillor , would not disclose where Hajnal Black was this morning, but said she had not slept in seven days.

He said her non-appearance was a misunderstanding as she thought she had to file submissions today, not be present at court.

He said he was unaware of the warrant issue.
