THE DAUGHTER of a woman who was allegedly murdered 12 years ago says it’s been a traumatic and emotional wait but she’s confident her family will receive justice.
Violet Bailey, 17, said she understood that accidents might happen, but for those allegedly responsible for the death of her mother and uncle in 2004 to wait 12 years was “unacceptable”.
“It’s difficult, my emotions are very much everywhere, I’m happy that someone will be brought to justice hopefully,” she said.
Ms Bailey made an appeal in December 2015 for people to come forward with more information, which lead to the arrest of a Kallangur woman on Saturday.
“I want to say a big thank you to everyone who has been involved, everyone who has contacted the family, called Crime Stoppers,” she said.
“It’s been quite a struggle but thank you to all the people who have been giving information, it does mean a lot to my family and I that something has been happening and things are changing for us.”
Police said they expected up to four people could eventually be arrested for the murder of April and Ian Bailey at their Deception Bay home in 2004 in what they described as a “coordinated attack”.
For 12 years police struggled to find a new lead but they say a person who appeared to have had a “change of heart” came forward late on Saturday and provided crucial information.
Detective Inspector Damien Hansen said police would like the anonymous caller to contact police again and reminded the public that the $250,000 reward and indemnity from prosecution still stands.
“There’s one call in particular that we’ve received... the caller has provided information that gives us the events leading up to the events, the persons involved,” Det Insp Hansen said.
“It is obvious from the detail that this person’s gone into that they’re a close associate of the persons involved.”
Det Insp Hansen said he was “very happy” with the way the case wasprogressing.
EARLIER: The family of a woman charged in relation to an alleged double homicide in Deception Bay 12 years ago say police “do not have the full story.”
Kallangur woman Danielle Lee Fels, also known as Postlewaite, appeared in the Redcliffe Magistrates Court on Monday facing two counts of murder and one count of arson.
April Bailey, 31, and her brother Ian, 29, were found dead in their house on Warren Crescent, after it was destroyed in a fire in 2004.
Police alleged the siblings were murdered before their house was set on fire using an accelerant.
She was also charged with drug possession.
Ms Fels was in tears as she sat before the Redcliffe Magistrate, repeatedly waving at her family in the court.
Police asked the magistrate for a three month adjournment, which was granted, and a new date was set for mention on Tuesday 20 December.
Ms Fels did not apply for bail and has been remanded in custody.
Following her arrest on Saturday detectives said Ms Fels was an “associate” of both victims from 2004.
It is understood detectives are also investigating four other people of interest in relation to the double murder.
April Bailey’s daughter Violet, who was 4-years-old at the time of her mother’s death, is expected to make an appeal for information later today.
Police have offered a reward of $250,000, and an indemnity from prosecution for any accomplice for information that leads to a conviction.
