More than 700 items of Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen’s estate were auctioned on Tuesday evening, including the iconic 1982 white Jaguar and his Archibald Portrait.
Lloyd’s Auctions listed the former premier, who held office from 1968 to 1987, and his wife and Queensland Senator Lady Florence’s items for auction.
700 items from Bjelke-Petersen estate to be auctioned
The collection included an array of mementos including the magnificent Archibald painting of Sir Joh, which sold for $22,500.
But this wasn’t the highest selling item, not by a long way, with a signed post moon landing schedule selling for a whopping $39,000 alongside a similar certificate selling for $25,500.
His famous stetson swagger hat sold for $5,000, his briefcase for $3,000 and his watch for $5,215.
A lot of items sold for much more than their listing, like this desk used throughout his career listed for over $800 and sold for $3,700.
The historic 1982 white Jaguar Sovereign was listed at $3800 and sold for a staggering $14,500.
It wasn’t just Sir Joh’s items that sold for big prices, with Lady Florence’s cake tins selling for hundreds of dollars individually.
