Northern Pride fans will have to wait until the third round to see their team in action at Barlow Park.
The Intrust Super Cup draw was released on Friday, revealing the Pride would start their march for redemption in enemy territory.
CAIRNS’ CRUCIAL ROLE IN FUTURE WOMEN’S COWBOYS TEAM
The Pride will travel to Piggabeen Sports Complex for a season opener against Tweed Seagulls, before backing up with another trip to Brisbane’s north to face the Devils in Round 2.
Ty Williams’ men will then finally get to stay at home, when they’ll host Easts Tigers.
While the Pride will face arch rivals Townsville in a pre-season trial at Barlow Park, which will be a curtain raiser to the massive Cowboys-Broncos trial in Cairns, they won’t battle the Blackhawks in the regular season until the Anzac weekend.
In other key games:
- the first battle with a North Queensland rival will come in Round 6, when the Mackay Cutters come to Cairns,
- the Pride will jump on a plane and head over to Papua New Guinea for a clash with the Hunters on the Easter weekend, and
- the Pride will wear a specially designed Indigenous jersey in an Indigenous Round clash with the Ipswich Jets.
WHO ARE THE BEST CAIRNS SPORTS TEAMS IN 2019?
A Country Week game is expected to be held in Far North Queensland, but a venue will not be formally announced until next season.
The Pride will also honour the winners of their first premiership with an Old Boys Day clash with Norths Devils in Round 23, the QRL’s “Turn To Me” Round.
A fixture specifically requested by the Pride, they’ll host the Devils to mark the 10-year anniversary of their 2010 grand final win against Norths.
It was a season the Pride produced one of the great rugby league miracles, as they overcame a 3-5 start to the season, pieced together a 12-game winning run to claim the silverware.
