Great Keppel Island’s iconic Shell House has sold to a family from northern New South Wales for $1.65 million.
The property at 64 Esplanade, located off Fisherman’s Beach, settled through One Real Estate on July 2.
The Shell House was built in the 1960s and used to operate as a souvenir shop.
The home had a long list of artist and celebrity visitors over the years, including Rockhampton duo Busby Marou, who took inspiration for their third album Postcards From the Shell House from the property.
Principal of One Real Estate Julie Cochrane said the property had some good interest before it sold.
“We did an expressions of interest campaign and over that time we had numerous inquiries,” Ms Cochrane said.
“It was on the market for about four months.
“It was just a matter of somebody coming in with the right price.”
She said the buyers were a family from northern New South Wales who had been looking for an island retreat for some time.
“They were familiar with the area,” she said.
“They had sailed through The Keppels on many occasions and loved The Keppels because it was one of the most beautiful places in Australia.”
The freehold property is situated on a massive 1012 sqm block and boasts three bedrooms, indoor and outdoor bathrooms, a large sleep out area, open plan lounge and dining areas, and kitchen with multiple preparation surfaces and professional grade appliances.
The property also has lush gardens, multiple entertaining areas, a caravan that provids further guest accommodation, and a shed that could accommodate mechanical equipment or be used to house two vehicles.
Ms Cochrane said it was great to be involved in the sale and get a good result for the owners who had the property for 11 years.
“They just got to a stage where it was time for them to move on,” she said.
“It was a really good outcome for everybody.”
