WHEN Sophie Holmes saw her little brother fall into the family pool, she didn’t hesitate to jump in and save his life.
Her mother Vicki Holmes, who is still moved to tears when she talks about the January day of the accident, said Sophie was her “absolute hero” for saving the life of Blake, 3.
For her amazing act of heroism, Sophie, 5, has been nominated by her grandmother for a Pride of Australia Child of Courage Medal.
“I was sitting with the kids and then the next thing I hear is ‘Blake, Blake’,’’ Ms Holmes said.
“Blake had fallen in the deep end, with his hoodie towel around his head.
“Sophie put her arms around him and swam to the side, using lifesaving skills she had learnt in swimming lessons only a month before. She saved his life.
“She is the most amazing little girl. She saved his life – she is my absolute hero.”
Grandmother Linda Hawkes said Sophie was a “well deserving little girl”.
“Sophie selflessly and courageously rescued her brother,” Ms Hawkes said.
