From job description to salary and benefits, the perks of protecting Pine Gap has been revealed in a job advertisement for a role in Australia’s most secretive base.

One of Australia’s most secret locations has appealed to aspiring police officers in a bid to bolster its base security.

Last week, the Australian Federal Police commenced its public call-out for applicants interested in a role as a protective service officer at Pine Gap facility, based in the Red Centre.

Considered one of the most important strategic sites in the southern hemisphere, the Pine Gap station, located just outside Alice Springs, serves a significant role in conducting surveillance for both Australian and US intelligence agencies.

Protective service officers are responders to any criminal and national security threats and are typically employed to conduct high-visibility patrols by vehicle or foot.

The advert for the Pine Gap opportunity gave a candid overview of the locations job benefits, which included a starting salary of $113,000 per annum, overtime and penalties.

Pine Gap’s secretive activities has drawn the attention of activists over several decades.

The top secret base, rarely in national conversation, caught the attention of Territorians last year when Pro-Palestinian activists blocked the facility by securing their arms into a concrete barrel.

In the same month, activist group Mparntwe for Palestine claimed the facility was “directly complicit” in war crimes against Palestinians.
