People tell unique tales at city's first Story Slam

THE idea that everyone has a story was the inspiration for Toowoomba's Remember When Story Slam.

THE idea that everyone has a story was the inspiration for Toowoomba's Remember When Story Slam.

A story slam is the live telling of personal stories by people in the community.

Organiser Eylece Blaikie is working with Toowoomba Regional Council to bring this event to town.

Mrs Blaikie is also a fan of the United States' story slam podcast The Moth.

She said she enjoyed listening to other people's stories and wanted to hear unique tales of those in the community.

"Everyone has a story in them and this is all about bringing the community together," she said.

"I really want different perspectives and am keen for anyone to contact us with their ideas."

Stories can be about anything including transformation, liberation, chaos, love, loss, superstition and discovery.

About 15 people will be chosen to present their tales at the Empire Theatre.

Writer, publisher and speaker Emma Mactaggart will help people put their ideas together and Mrs Blaikie will help people present their ideas to a live audience.

Entry is free but tickets must be picked up from the Empire Theatre box office.
