More of the prosecution’s case against those charged with a murder in Alice Springs has been revealed, with another report set to be tendered to court.
A pathology report is set to be tendered for use in the case of 22-year-old Koang Wuordol and Guandong Lual Gatl Guandong, who have been charged with murdering 19-year-old Yiel ‘Yoal’ Deng Gatluak.
Mr Wuordol, Mr Guandong and a 17-year-old – who cannot be named for legal reasons – were charged over Mr Gatluak’s death earlier this year.
He was found dead on January 1, 10km east of Alice Springs on Undoolya Rd.
A week after the body was found Mr Wuordol was extradited from Melbourne to face the charges in Alice Springs.
The trio has been on remand since, and were excused from their latest hearing at the Alice Springs Local Court on Thursday, presided over by Judge Sarah McNamara.
Judge McNamara adjourned the matter to January 16 for another preliminary examination mention, to allow the prosecution time to receive a pathology report.
Mr Wuordol’s defence lawyer Greg Betts asked for the January 16 adjournment date, as the 17-year-old co-accused’s matter had already been adjourned to the same day in the morning.
Defence lawyer Elyse Williams, representing Mr Guandong, did not oppose the adjournment date.
Judge McNamara remanded Mr Wuordol and Mr Guandong in custody.
Previously, the court heard up to 18 gigabytes of evidence was set to be used in the case, which would contain a mixture of forensic materials, photo exhibits, and videos.
