While the Queensland Teachers’ Union is locked in tense EBA negotiations with the state government, president Cresta Richardson has spent the past week in Brussels.

Ms Richardson jetted off to Europe on an Emirates business-class ticket to attend an education conference on AI.

She also spent several days in the continent attending meetings of the Education International Executive Board.

However, this particular sky-high adventure was paid for by the QTU.

The QTU insisted its travel policy was followed and that “it would be untrue and defamatory to suggest the president’s conference attendance breaches any rules”.

It’s prompted outrage from readers including one teacher who indicated he would tear up his union membership.

THIS IS WHAT YOU HAD TO SAY

Ewan

Wake up Teachers you are being used. Think about the two days pay you’ve lost for no return.

Dave

She’s getting in training to become a Labor Politician. She like other Union Leaders get only the best with member’s union fees. It is no wonder Labor and Albanese don’t want to change their Perks when they’ve had them for years while working in unions and political circles.

Scott

Always love how the union leaders look after themselves first, union members second

Peter

Union leaders love to lecture others about cost of living pressures and “fairness”, yet somehow there’s always money for business class flights when it suits them. Straight from the how to be a Labor MP manifesto!

Commenters across The Courier-Mail’s social media also slammed the trip.

Peter

Goodbye QTU. I will not be paying you my $800 ish annual dues next year. You have failed to adequately influence the Dept of Ed.

Jeffrey

Albo must have given the “good to go” all a ok

John

Must be a labor party member

Lyn

This rorting of the public purse is totally out of hand. Everyone in other workplaces has to be accountable, but apparently if you’re a politician you can do and go wherever you please and claim that it’s work related.

Elizabeth

She will make a great Labor politician

Leonie

The unions are all the same look after themselves bugger the workers been doing it for years

Jimmy

Just shows again, all they are interested in, is themselves, same as pollies.

Brett

Wow and teachers did not get paid when they walked but she’s on the gravy train
