What you said about Qlders getting $100 for cost of living in budget

Rebates for Queenslanders in the state budget are few and far between this year.
Rebates for Queenslanders in the state budget are few and far between this year.

It’s the $100 a year boost that comes with multiple strings attached, it seems.

It was revealed in a state budget bereft of major cost-of- living support, families will get $100 per primary school child each year and vulnerable Queenslanders will receive a small bump in energy bill relief in

Treasurer David Janetzki hailed a new era of “targeted and responsible” cost-of-living measures with Labor’s big spending energy rebates, 20 per cent vehicle registration discount and other generous hip pocket help now a thing of the past.

The flagship measure of Mr Janetzki’s first budget is targeted at families with school-aged children.

From January 1 every school student attending Prep to Year 6 – regardless of the type of school they attend – will get $100 to spend on books, uniforms, and excursions in direct relief for families.

Education Minister John-Paul Langbroek said the measure would help drive attendance and engagement.

Power bills for vulnerable households will fall on average $386 this year after the government unfroze the indexation on rebates.

However not all readers were taking it as good news.

Some claimed the money could be better spent, while others came up with their own suggestions.

Meanwhile Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Labor is to blame for the cost of living crisis, some insisted.

WHAT YOU SAID

Blame Albo

JohnM132

Blame Federal ALP for electricity prices with their ridiculous transition to renewable energy. Continual rebates by State or Federal governments does not fix the electricity cost problem, it just delays the true cost of electricity. What needs to happen is the electoral community need to question ALP policy on renewable.

Wayne

The cost of the poles and wires to transport the energy from the isolated solar farms and wind farms to urban areas is another reason why renewables are so very expensive.

Indigo

Maybe if Snake Chalmer hadn’t ripped Qld off by over $5 BILLION to prop up failed states Victoria and NSW, we would have been able to have decent cost of living measures but Federal Labor punishing Queenslanders for voting the last incompetents out. Flabor

Barry T

we’re still really shocked when our electricity bill arrives,” – if you voted Labor at the Federal election, this is what you get.

Is enough being done to help with cost of living?
Is enough being done to help with cost of living?

I have an idea

Clearly

What on earth is wrong with renewables? Nothing that’s what. It’s the cheapest form of energy that is much less polluting than fossil fuel generation. The LNP wanted to convert to nuclear which, while greener than coal-fired, would have been insanely more expensive.

TrustNoOne

Why not include the $100 back to school bonus for year 7 to year 12. High school students return to school is much more expensive than a primary student.

Michael

So basically if you don’t have kids you don’t get nothing except increased prices for your rego and licence renewals …

Harry

The freebies had to stop. That’s the whole problem – everyone has had ten years of freebies, so it will be hard to break the habit.

Tony

Instead of giving families the $100, why not buy the books for the schools so they could then be used for multiple years. That would be better value for the State.

Bigger issues

Martin

How about we fix WHY electricity charges are so high.

peter

Well stop this ridiculous rush to renewable energy system at any cost.

Louise

I’m sorry but why do children attending private schools need $100 per child? Better off using that money for resources for struggling state schools and the children that attend them!

Doug

People do realise I hope that the outrageous cost of electricity is due entirely to the stupid rush to renewables instead of cheap coal.

Haggis

It is going to take more than one budget to fix this damage inflicted on Queensland by the previous government. About 3 budgets will give us an idea how it is going, but this one appears to set the stage
