The state government will move to weaken the CFMEU’s grip on the construction industry and Best Practice Industry Conditions policy – and many Queenslanders couldn’t be happier.
The Courier-Mail revealed new Queensland Treasury “scenario modelling” started under Labor and handed to the LNP government found the controversial BPIC policy could cause up to 22,000 fewer homes being constructed between this financial year and 2029-30.
It also found BPIC could drive rents 7 per cent higher.
Housing and Public Works Minister Sam O’Connor argued the analysis indicated a lack of productivity was affecting the private construction sector.
Analysis from Master Builders in August found BPIC, if exercised to its full extent, could add $290,000 to the cost of a two-bedroom apartment.
Transport Minister Brent Mickelberg said he was focused on “stopping the rot”, but was unable to say how BPIC would be disrupted.
The LNP said declining productivity on Queensland construction sites led to billions in cost escalations and months-long delays.
■ Wild history of CFMEU in Qld
Mr Crisafulli on Tuesday revealed Cross River Rail would cost Queensland taxpayers almost $7bn, with Labor quietly signing off on a $494m increase to the state’s largest infrastructure project on the eve of the state election.
Deputy Opposition Leader Cameron Dick said the supposed blowout was cash “set aside” for future negotiations on the project.
Regardless, many readers claimed to have had enough of the CFMEU, some calling for the union to be disbanded.
Others pointed the finger squarely at Labor, while some offered alternative ideas.

WHAT YOU SAID
Make CFMEU pay
Perry
Yes the CFMEU are guilty of detriment to the welfare of Queensland and should be made accountable
Sean
Remove the Unions right to access sites. Safety should be under the control of the State.
craig
About time the unions are no longer for the worker, now they are just a money making cesspit 50 years past there use by date
Timothy
Also investigate all unions, also the ETU, Health union, AWU etc
I blame Labor
Austin
Labor were never working for Queensland. We need robust laws to prevent this kind of misconduct and to prosecute offenders even if they are in parliament.
paul
Drain the swamp , Thank you Thank you LNP
Farmerp
Just disband them all. They think governments have an endless credit card.
Alan
The Labor playbook is never admit to a failure, double down on denying it, never apologise for failures and always blame someone else.
I have an idea

While you are at it, stop the unions from free access to the Public servants. People always say we have a lot to thank the unions for, and we do, but this applies to the unions of an era long gone. The unions of today are null and void.
Timothy
CFEMU has to be banned and disbanded
William
the Newman model was a better option at the start, but that’s old hat. disappointed at Dicks attitude, thought he had more brain than to make his statements. we will be lucky if CRR comes in under $10b
Anthony
Just repeal the legislation and relegate any portions of the contracts not started, $200k for a stop go worker is just complete nonsense and the money grab at our expense has to stop, yes they will go in strike but they live such lavish lifestyles that they will soon be broke and returning to work The unions need to be defenestrated.
