What you said about CFMEU protest in Brisbane over wage demands

The CFMEU’s latest big-money play doesn’t make any sense – that’s the view of many Queenslanders. HAVE YOUR SAY

CFMEU workers strike as $240k wages in the spotlight

The CFMEU’s latest big-money play doesn’t make any sense.

That’s the view of many Queenslanders as it’s revealed workers from the powerful union walked off the job at Brisbane’s $6.2bn Cross River Rail project.

As demands for huge pay rises that would see an entry-level construction worker earn $240,000 remain unmet, CFMEU workers launched four days of protected industrial action.

Multiple written signs were draped over nearby fences.

On May 2 the Federal Court granted an “urgent injunction” order stopping the CFMEU from blocking access to Cross River Rail sites.

Union members had walked off Cross River Rail worksites for a second day and blocked non-union workers from accessing the site - causing tensions to erupt in a fight at the Dutton Part site.

The latest protest adds to the union’s long list of issues in the state over the years.

Readers were quick to jump on the issue, with some claiming the lack of pay for teachers makes the wage demand laughable.

Others said Labor had made this mess by being in bed with the CFMEU.

The unions want to run the country make them responsible for country crisis

Steven

Unions have destroyed manufacturing in this country and are now working on doing the same to the economy. Until we have a government that has the guts to take them on it will get worse If I want something done I make sure it’s not a union person doing it.

Up to 30 union workers were gathered outside the Exhibition Station Cross River Rail site by 7am, with vehicles parked along a restricted lane of O’Connell Tce.

Probably not the best look when we are struggling with keeping a roof over our heads.

PEEter

Don’t negotiate. Don’t pay them. See how long they last.

Potatoes of the Night

Call their bluff and just stop everything on their sites. Supply, power, access, parking etc. Wait it out – don’t blink and don’t speak first.

Francis

Mia

They’re just trying to shore up agreements before LNP gets rid of them all in October. Making hay whilst the sun’s still shining. Not for long …

Allan

At the end of this disruptive week, watch Miles march with the Comrades on Labour Day next week and talk about passion of the union movement.
